Recognising extraordinary service and dedication to our club.
Life Membership Acknowledgment – October 2023
It is with great pleasure that we recognise Cheryl Richards for her outstanding contributions to our football club. Cheryl's journey with the club began in 1979 when she met her life partner, a player with St Helens at the time. Since then, she has been an invaluable asset to our community.
Cheryl's involvement started modestly, assisting in the canteen under the guidance of Betty Semmens. Over the years, she has become a key organizer of club functions and fundraisers. Her dedication and creativity have brought joy and success to numerous events, including memorable shows like "Hey Hey It's Saturday" and the unforgettable "Cameo" appearance of Cher & Mal Gray performing "Bat out of Hell" on a large peewee motorbike. Cheryl's enthusiasm and willingness to participate in various activities, such as ABBA take-offs and mock weddings, have made her an indispensable part of our club.
Cheryl's contributions extend beyond event organization. She has taken on numerous roles, including washing footy jumpers, selling raffle tickets, bar work, cleaning club rooms, making soup and sandwiches, creating banners, and even serving as a taxi driver for many. Her dedication to ensuring the success of club events, from annual dinners to funerals and weddings, is truly commendable. Cheryl's culinary skills have also been a significant asset, providing delicious food for various occasions.
In the early 2000s, Cheryl led a small group that catered for club functions, generating substantial revenue and contributing to the club's financial stability. Her efforts in the canteen, where she quietly organized the soup roster and other tasks, have been invaluable. Cheryl has passed on her knowledge to Ebony, who is undoubtedly grateful for her guidance.
Cheryl and Michael's financial contributions to the club cannot go unmentioned. They have been ongoing sponsors, trophy donors, and have ensured that financially strapped players had the necessary gear to participate. Cheryl's support for Michael during his tenure as president, including assisting with writing reports, letters, and speeches, has been unwavering. She has been his rock through challenging times.
Cheryl's involvement with the club has been a family affair, with her two boys also becoming great team members and supporters. Her organizational skills and willingness to help have made her an integral part of the East Coast Swans footy family. Cheryl's tireless efforts have significantly contributed to the club's success.
In recognition of her exceptional dedication and service, we are proud to appoint Cheryl Richards as a Life Member of our club. Cheryl's contributions have made a lasting impact, and we are fortunate to have her as part of our community.
