Robert (Booza) Breen

Awarded Life Membership October 2023

It is with great pleasure that we recognise Robert ‘Booza’ Breen for his outstanding contributions to our club by awarding him Life Membership.

Booza has been an integral part of our club for many years, demonstrating unwavering dedication and commitment. Booza headed off to Launceston to attend Grammar, followed by the Maritime College, and eventually commenced a career in commercial fishing. Despite his professional commitments, Booza returned to his hometown in the early eighties to play for our club. (Reg Walley) I recall coaching the reserves during that period, and it was evident that Booza's passion for the game was obvious.

Booza's involvement with the club deepened during Christine Millwood's presidency, where he played a pivotal role in our Festivale ventures and in restoring the club's financial stability. His key responsibilities have included sports training, organizing the Pyengana game, participating in the footy department and coaching selection panel, and coordinating volunteers. Booza has fostered strong relationships within our footy community, earning genuine friendships with many players.

His generosity extends beyond his time and effort; Booza has contributed financially and provided fish for teas and auctions, far exceeding expectations. His willingness to step up and get things done efficiently is truly commendable.

As vice president for several years, Booza has been an exceptionally reliable support for me, enduring long emails and committee meetings with patience. While Booza does not seek acknowledgment for his contributions, it is our honour to recognise his long-standing and significant impact on our club by awarding him Life Membership.
